Olympic and Team Pro4U take an early lead on Day One in Tallinn – BOW2022
Four perfect inshore races held on Tallinn bay for the Baltic Offshore Week today. Steady westerly wind with velocity of 6-10 m/s kept the sailors and Race Committee happy and after starting at midday the race day was finished by 5 pm.
Two boats were dominating the day, both winning three races out of four.
In A Class Olympic (X-41 mod) with Tiit Vihul at the helm from Dago YC is leading the pack with 4 points followed by Premium (X-41 mod) with Tanel Tamm steering, being the only boat to beat Olympic in Race One. For third position the fight is fierce with 3 boats having equally 10 points, but at the moment the preliminary podium is completed by third X-41 Forte with Jaak Jõgi at the helm.
In B Class Swedish Team Pro4U (First 36.7 Mod) with Patrik Forsgren at the helm took three bullets and takes an early lead ahead of Aivar Tuulberg’s Katariina II (Arcona 340) with three points margin. Katariina II won the final race of the day and lies on the second position, while Directo (Italia 9.98) with Erik Melts steering is third with 10 points. Also in Class B three following boats, who are lying on fourth to sixth places, have equally 12 points – not far from third position.
Tomorrow’s offshore race will take A class boats to 45 nM course, while smaller boats in Class B will have a 35nM course to sail.

Information for Estonian boat owners: Based on the ORC policy and the decision of the EYY Technical Committee, from 2022 onwards data on the weight of the mast or the center of gravity determined by the inclining test, will not be used in the ORC Club measurement certificate. If this data has been measured for your yacht, you should order an ORC International measurement certificate to use it. If they have not been measured for your boat, you can order the measurement here.
The ORC Club is primarily intended for yachts for which there is insufficient data to issue an ORCi measurement certificate, but still allow them to compete with fully measured yachts on the same basis.

Baltic Offshore Week 2021 – Save the dates June 18-20
The already traditional open Finnish and Estonian ORC championships in offshore sailing will be held this year in Helsinki, Finland.
The race days are Friday 18.6. – Sunday 20.6.2021.
Madis Ausman, an International Race Officer, is responsible for the race management. Madis, familiar from many previous BOWs, is also involved in the organization of the ORC World Championship 2021 – Tallinn, Estonia.
The competition harbour is the Katajanokka guest marina, which is familiar from 2019. The intention is to get a decent race village with its ancillary services in the harbour area.
The organizing yacht club is the Xtra Stærk Ocean Racing Society, where everyone is familiar with Ari Peltomäki and Tomi Hakola.
The arrangements are made together with the Avomeripurjehtijat – Finnish Offshore Racing Association and the Estonian Yachting Union.
This year, BOW is the perfect place to hone your maneuvers and trims for the ORC Worlds. On the track there is an opportunity to fight not only with the top crews of Finland and Estonia, but also probably with a few ‘long-distance’ teams preparing for the World Championships.
And, of course, the championship medals of both countries will be awarded!
Save the dates on the calendar and we will let you know when the registration at the Manage2Sail site will open soon!
